Detailed Teletype character set information
More than you probably needed to know unless you maintain these machines. From Teletype Bulletin 1048, the Model 14 parts manual, and Teletype Bulletin 144, the Model 15 description manual.
USTTY vs ITA2
USTTY table |
Notes |
|
AT&T and US military Teletypes tend to use the USTTY character set, while Western Union teletypes tend to use what became the ITA2 character set. The main differences are for BELL and apostrophe. Teletype Corporation documents for the Model 14 refer to "Bell on shift-S" and "Bell on shift-J".
Both cases use the same typebars. The code bars are different. |
